Shared Facilities: Flow Cytometric Cell Sorting

The Research Flow Cytometry Cell Sorting Core Facility, located on the lower level of the Developmental Biology Institute Research Building, supports state-of-the-art efforts in translational investigation and basic research.

The Facility includes two MoFlo cell sorters (Dako). Both machines are equipped with two lasers – Blue (488 nm) and Red (635 nm) – that allow sorting based on nine parameters including up to seven fluorochromes.

The facility is operated under the aegis of Dr. Mariusz Z. Ratajczak, Director of Developmental Biology Institute. The Core Manager, Dr. Ewa K. Zuba-Surma, is a trained MoFlo operator experienced in various imaging techniques, who is ready to provide advice on experimental design. Mr. Christopher Worth, the main Core operator, is a trained Biomedical Engineer with more than 19 years experience using cell sorting technology for various branches of research.

Cell sorting is performed by the experienced operators of the Facility in consultation with the primary investigator on a fee-for-service basis that includes fees for use of the sorter and the time of the operator. The rate is $106.00 per hour of run time, with a one-hour minimum. There currently is no setup fee. The facility is scheduling two weeks in advance, with longer lead times possible as required by the experiment.

The facility is available to all Brown Cancer Center members, University researchers, and affiliated investigators.

Please call Chris Worth, Biomedical Engineer Sr., at 852-7191, in advance to schedule cell sorting.
